So...I know I'm not supposed to attempt to take Drassen cuz counter attack is supposed to be THE 1.13 battle. But going Chitz first (after making a boatload of cash in San Mona) doesn't seem to be that much different as I'm facing a counter attack of 60 guys less than 24h after taking Chitzena northern sector. WTF!? How the hell am I supposed to play this mod? Cuz even with the help of my meatshields (err, loyal militia) there is no way we could ever defeat 60 soldiers considering at least 10 of them are black shirts. My militia are dropping like flies and every blackshirt needs to take at least 4 shots from my .22 peeshooters to die. Using toyguns against an army is not fun at all, even if said army is also packing toyguns. Also, Chitzena has no rooftops, so I can't go for a rooftop rumble. Any ideas?
BTW, rushing Drassen Airport and hoping Bobby Ray will sell me REAL guns failed miserably. He is selling the SAME crap. I will NOT restart my game, as I did nothing wrong other than not GUESSING what the game expects me to do.

I think this idea is just AWESOME
I was a huge fan of JA2 during my teenage, and I love this mod I just discovered.
You're not fighting a regular war, you're fighting a guerilla and you're the "weak" side.
Thus said, it's logical to meet over-powered troops and your strenght isn't the fire power but the surprise element here's a few tips:
1. If they're strong run and hide. If you fail place traps and ambush, you don't have to kill them, just wound them enough so they stop following you while you try to run and hide again. If you injure 30 of them, even lightly, that's half of their troops that will be unable to follow you further.
2. Move with the smallest and most dispersed squads you can, attack with the biggest squad you can (from different directions if you can)
3. Try to keep a vehicle near dangerous areas so you can evac quickly your wounded mercs.
4. Do not underestimate melee and knives to neutralize isolated soldiers quietly.
5. Have a small squad away from battle but near to all your other squads so they can provide a quick support in case things turn bad for one of them. "Athletic" is a great skill for that since you can provide a quicker support, then you can cover the rescued squad while they run away and when they're safe your support team is fast enough to escape easily and the escape road have just been reconed by the rescued team so you'll have few risk to run like mad men.

Use camo + stealthy + night ops traits + silenced pistol / smg + HP/glaser ammo (most enemies don't have vests early in the game) and do night missions. Using hit and run tactics you can kill nomatterhowmany guys with just one dude. :]

The fact that enemies hit beyond effective range with pistols like nothing made me even more crazy.

Turn zombies on. Kill a few baddies and watch them come back and act like fodder for you. The AI usually targets the zombies first.
