Hey guys! I'm a big Jagged Alliance fan, and I wondered if any of you had noticed that BitComposer has changed the Jaggedalliance.com website? It has a banner that says "Jagged Alliance Online" and says they'll be at GamesCom in Cologne, which appears to be in a couple of weeks.
What's Jagged Alliance Online?

Dumbed down compared to vanilla or 1.13--that's the question. Honestly, I don't have a problem with it being at the approximate complexity level of vanilla JA2 as long as it's moddable. The tragedy would be if it was dumbed down compared to vanilla JA2 and there was no direct mod support.
From a marketing standpoint, there have been so many games that have come out since JA2 (including 1.13) that it would be a huge missed opportunity not to take the best elements from some of them. There are so many opportunities to enhance the RPG elements of JA that it's ridiculous. I think the best improvement would be incorporating all of the complexities of JA2+1.13+the last 12 years of gaming into one elegant interface that doesn't require a bigger hotkey map than a nuclear submarine and is accessible to the first-time player--even if that means some features are turned off by default. Think about Civilization. Appropriate documentation, tutorials, in-game help, and tooltips/hints/suggestions would go a long way. The established user support base is already sitting right here.
No new developer will be able to appease the "if it's 3D, it's not JA" crowd if they want mainstream success. But, if they approach it as a modern military strategy game with a Civilization-level complexity, competitive and co-op multiplayer, and mod support... they could easily have a sleeper Game of the Year contender like Portal. I believe that's true untapped potential of JA as a concept.

Guys...
Check their newsletter:
Jagged Alliance 2: Reloaded - Discussion: Turn-based combat system 2011
We would love to receive your suggestions and ideas for a modern, turn-based combat system for Jagged Alliance 2: Reloaded. What do you think a modern version of such a combat system should look like? What is wrong with the existing JA2 combat system, what annoys you about it and what must be retained without fail?
We look forward to hearing your proposals, suggestions and ideas.

I admit that I like the screens, even though; they are not cutting edge (They described them to be more modern).
